Xenon is one of the most promising contemporary gas anesthetics but influence of xenon-oxygen mixtures on human body is poor investigated. We conducted a prospective study to reveal the efficiency of complex intensive therapy of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) by including xenon-oxygen inhalations. In the experimental part of our research effect of repeated application of xenon in xenon-oxygen mixture on reactive oxygen species (ROS)-depended processes and behavioral parameters was evaluated. Xenon therapy was performed by inhalations of gas mixture containing from 25 to 50% xenon and from 40 to 70% oxygen in 30 patients with ACS. Also Xe inhalations were performed in male Wistar rats by gas mixture with Xe:O2:N2 = 50:40:10% during 13 days (Xe/O2 group) in comparison with O2 (40% O2 + 60% N2) without Xe (O2 group). Xenon provided fast pain relief, a positive dynamics of clinical status and favorable changes of hemodynamics. The analysis of markers of myocardial necrosis level revealed significant decrease to the third day of observation. In the O2 group in comparison with control group the elevated cruciform labyrinth test revealed increase of general run of the animals, duration of presence in the center of the labyrinth and quantity of approaches into the open sleeves. The results reflect activation of orient and exploratory reactions and increase of anxious component of behavior in the O2 group. Xe in Xe/O2 group contributes to significant decrease of these variables and compensates these changes. O2 enhances free radical oxidation and activation of antioxidant protection enzymes in the tissue of liver. Xe in Xe/O2 group prevents these processes and the activity of antioxidant protection enzymes does not differ from the control group. The obtained results allow to suggest that gas mixture with xenon in regimen of adaptation possesses antistress and antioxidant action.
